The Way2Go is to work with your teachers, guidance counselors, and family to take the middle and high school classes and develop the study and work habits that prepare you for a successful college life.

To prepare to apply to USM's universities, you should take the following courses in high school:
- English: 4 years of English composition and literature.
- Social Science and History: At least 3 years.
- Biological and Natural Sciences: 3 years. Courses completed must be in two different subject areas, and 2 of the 3 must include laboratory experience.
- For students interested in science-oriented careers, 4 years of science are recommended in 3 different science areas, with 3 laboratory experiences.
- Mathematics: 3 years, including: Algebra I or Applied Math I and II; Formal Logic or Geometry; and Algebra II.
- Language (other than English): 2 years of the same language; or Advanced Technology. American Sign Language is accepted.
