
In high school, it's important to take courses that will prepare you for college. Work with your teachers, guidance counselors, and family to stay on the college-bound path.
9th Grade
- Take courses to prepare for college-level study:
- English
- Algebra I or Applied Math I
- Biological and Natural Sciences
- Social Science and History
- A foreign language or advanced technology course
- Take elective courses that meet USM's admission standards.
- September: Register to take the PSAT in October. Learn more and sign up for e-mail alerts at www.collegeboard.com.
- Develop and explore your talents and interests through extracurricular activities.
- Earn good grades, keep up your good study habits, and stay on top of homework assignments.
- High school sophomores can begin taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Talk to your guidance counselor about which classes are right for you.
